History

 According to the Smithtown Historical Society, in 1665, Richard "Bull" Smith purchased the portion of Commack which got its original name from the Indian word, "Winnecomac". "Winnecomac" comes from the name that the Native Americans and original inhabitants originally gave to the land which they called, "pleasant land" and "beautiful place".
